Studio de Gruijter is the independent practice of industrial designer and maker Olivier de Gruijter, based in Amsterdam.I design and build objects and installations that question how we understand and interact with the world around us.
Projects often begin with a question. Through research, hands-on prototyping, testing and multi-disciplinary collaboration, I develop ideas into physical form. Making is a way to explore possibilities, test ideas and make hidden systems tangible. My work ranges from field-based research on shifting water systems in Kenya to a walk-in Camera Obscura and the development of a water purification system.
I collaborate with cultural institutions, researchers, design studios and independent makers, working locally and internationally. I have previously worked with Joris Laarman Studio, Jason Bruges Studio and Loop Earplugs, contributing to experimental artworks, interactive installations and product development.
